As described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1.2 Yogas chitta vritti nirodaha the art and science of Yoga is the calming and quieting of the self limiting, self negating, self destructive thinking that holds us back from experiencing who we truly are. As we calm the storms in our minds, we peel back the veils that cover our inner light and reveal our highest potential, our pure awareness and wisdom.
Welcome to the Teton Yoga Shala (TYS)! Shala means “school” in Sanskrit the language of yoga. We offer private yoga instruction, classes, workshops and teacher trainings in our studio located in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Yoga has many benefits. It promotes physical health, builds strength and flexibility and calms the mind. It is a wonderful adjunct to meditation and other spiritual disciplines, as well as all sports. It benefits old and young alike.
We offer instruction in a range of yoga traditions, from basic Hatha yoga to advanced Ashtanga techniques. The Ashtanga Vinyasa system is a dynamic and powerful method of Yoga, which combines concentration, breath, and posture into a moving meditation.
The hallmarks of this method are its emphasis on self practice, internal awareness, and strength. With modification to this system, we strive to make yoga available to all ages and abilities offering a variety of class levels. Our intention is to assist the practitioner in developing a yoga practice that is strong without over efforting, and relaxed without dullness. All of our teachers are certified yoga instructors, providing students with the highest quality experience.
We are conveniently located near the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in the Aspens in Wilson, Wyoming. Visitors are welcome to drop in, either for a class or just to say hello.
